About Besto

Besto was founded in 1920 by Mr. van der Belt and Mr. van der Stouwe and named after the owners. Situated in a little town called “Zwartsluis” near the former inland Sea “ Zuiderzee”. At the start of the company, there was a strong focus on producing collision bags, now called fenders, made from rattan and cork filling. Next was the manufacturing of lifejackets & buoys for the professional & Inland navigation shipping. The raw
materials used then were mainly cotton, kapok and cork. A new era started when Besto started creating and supplying products for a new and upcoming use, namely for sports & leisure. Modern designs were made. New materials where used, like Polyethylene foam and Synthetic fabrics. 


The company name was then changed into BESTO. And the base for the future of Besto was born. Besto is now a synonym for Comfort, Safety & Quality with a wide range of lifesaving products.


Today, more than a 100years later Besto still is one of the leaders in buoyancy aids and lifejackets. Due to qualified product research, continuous perfection of the optimal body fit and customers bespoke wishes, while using only top materials, Besto lifejackets are of the highest quality and safety level.


All lifejackets and buoyancy aids are approved in accordance with the latest European and Global norms and standards. Together with our approved quality modules D & E, all the Besto products carry the CE mark of type approval. Due to strict final inspection of all lifejackets and buoyancy aids, Besto is able to enforce the highest quality standards. Every year, Besto’s Quality System, the processes and personnel are tested and approved by an independent institutions (Bureau Veritas & Fleetwood). This enables Besto to
produce comfortable, attractive, high quality and safe Besto products, all in compliance with the latest requirements and test procedures.
